Safely in Mozambique!

Hi everyone,

This is Wendy (Kristy's Mum) posting on their behalf. I just wanted you to know that I spoke to Kristy and Bob this morning. They had left Swaziland at 9 a.m. yesterday and drove all night, arriving in Beir, Mozambique, at 3 p.m. today. So a journey of 1100 kms took them about 30 hours! They arrived safely but not without adventure. She wanted me to share a few details with you all so you can be praying for the team...

Apparently the police in Mozambique are known to be significantly "less than honest" and they discovered this very quickly into their journey. They were stopped 3-4 times after crossing the border, by different police units who, seeing white people in the vehicle, began to demand money for such things as road taxes, insurance, international licenses, etc. Fortunately they had already done their homework and Bob (driver) was able to refute their claims of needing money for the different purposes. One told him that he needed to have an international driver's license but he knew that he didn't, as he was only in the country as a student for less than 30 days. He'd also made a color xerox copy of his driver's license, and laminated it, to give the authorities should they ask for it. He was told to never give out original documents as he will probably have to pay money to have them returned...

They ran out of gas twice as the roads were, apparently, not much more than ruts going across pastureland a lot of the time. They hadn't carried gas with them and there were no outlets open as they travelled through the night. At one point a trucker sold them some - which they had thought to be enough to get them to a gas station but it wasn't. The second time they ran out, they all ended up pushing the kombie (van) up and down hills until they were rescued by some missionaries who towed their vehicle to a station... But, with lots of prayer and brute strength, they made it through safely!

The heat in Mozambique is intense and the team arrived a bit discouraged, so please pray for:

- Kristy's skin - that she would be okay in the heat;
- safety for the whole team as they are in Mozambique for a month
- encouragement and rest for them as well, that they would look to God for the strength they need to complete the tasks He's brought them there for. Also that they would be united in their efforts there.

Kristy will update again soon but the internet connection is very limited (if at all) where they are now.
