Just please keep them in your prayers...I can't even imagine what they must have felt.
Hello family and friends,
We have just received a phone call from Jorge. He had climbed up to the top of a hill so that he could get cell coverage. It was SO good to hear his voice!! It was not a long phone call because he didn't want to use his phone battery up, but here, in point form, is what he said:
- they are safe. He said their house was "okay" (not sure what that means) and they are all able to still sleep there - in the living room with the door open for quick escape, if necessary. Laura is with them and fine as well - I've let her parents know.
- they aren't injured - at least, when I asked him that, he said, "We are okay, Mum. There are a lot of people worse than we are." Mandy did have contractions most of yesterday so he requested prayer for her as, "it's not the best time to have a baby".
- there is quite a bit of damage in Yumbel - the church was hit hard and he said that "one more good shake and it will come down". He said they are having aftershocks about every 5 minutes, so the situation is far from stable.
- they have enough water and food for a couple of days at the most. After that, he doesn't know. Nothing is coming into the town as far as help (food/water/power/gas). He is hoping that they will have power within a few days so he can get online. He doesn't know if the road between Concepcion and Yumbel is open.
- he filled up his tank the day before but has been driving around checking up on people and he doesn't know where he will get more once that is gone.
- he had NOT heard from his Dad and was very concerned about his family - that they had water and food because they are getting very little information and what news they are getting sounded bad. I was able to tell him that his family was okay which, I'm sure, lifted some of his burden.
- he said the damage in Yumbel was bad but not as bad as other places. He said the earthquake was SO strong and was very scary.
- there are still many tsunamis (I didn't know this via the news coverage) happening in Chile and many people have died and still are, in those.
- a lot of people in the town were freaking out but they were trying to help them and remain calm.
Prayer requests - for food, water, and no more damage. He said Mandy was scared (as were they all) but she was "okay".
- there is no phone reception. He had to climb up a hill in the rain to make the call...
That is all we have for now but, oh how we praise God that we have heard from them!! Please continue to keep them in your prayers and I will send out another email if I hear from them again..
